A trickle charger slowly adds the charge to a battery and does not allow for the normal depletion of charge that batteries commonly have when sitting unused for a long period of time. You may find a use for a trickle charger when you have an old car that you don’t drive very often, kids battery operated toys that they may not use during the colder months, a riding lawn mower or tractor that sits parked in the garage several months without use or a cart that likewise is not used during the winter months.
Trickle charges employ the use of a battery regulator to regulate the charging rate and prevent overcharging, charging your 12V battery at a rate similar to the rate at which it self-discharges so as to maintain full battery capacity. Charging at too fast of a rate or overcharging can cause damage to the battery.
A portable generator that has an automatic start feature is an excellent use for a battery trickle charger. Most of these generators have no pull cord backup start feature so when your battery is dead you have no way of starting your generator.
The charger shown above is the one I use for my portable generator battery, the tractor and riding lawn mower. It is lightweight, smart, compact, fully automatic and very easy to use especially in small spaces. Use it in your storage building, garage, carport, boat dock; any place that you have utility power. This simple, manageable and inexpensive automatic battery maintainer, trickle charger and battery drip charger will keep your battery fully charged so it is ready to go when you need it.
It comes with alligator clips and ring terminals connectors and it is so easy to hook up. This power battery charger has a fully sealed outer case and is dust-resistant, oil-resistant and anti-moisture to prevent corrosion or other damaging effects of weather exposure.
