Camping can be a lot of fun when you are reasonably comfortable. You may chose to tent camp, sleep on the ground in a sleeping bag or sleep on one of the inflatable mattresses in the backseat of our car, SUV or truck. Whichever, there are good products to make your camping experience comfortable and fun.
Don’t Forget Extra Clothing
Make sure to pack plenty of extra clothing for your children. Camping can be dirty. Children seem to be dirt magnets. This means that as the day goes on, the dirtier your kids will get. You don’t want to interrupt their fun, it’s a joy of camping after all; but, keep some extra clothing with you for them. Keep yourself ready at all times.
When camping with children, create special themed breakfasts. You can tie small food and drink boxes into the trees. When they wake up, they’ll have to search the “jungle” for breakfast. This makes the trip even more magical for kids.
A bandanna or a handkerchief can be beneficial to bring on your trip. These can be used in a pinch if you need a potholder, towel or even something to carry an item in. You will find that you can use these in a lot of versatile ways, so bring one along when you’re camping.
Camping is fun for children, but make sure to plan out some extra activities they will like. Being in the woods can be boring for them as time goes on. Make sure that they get acquainted with different camping activities such as fishing and pitching the tent. Take the time to teach them these skills before the trip, especially if they don’t spend a great deal of time outdoors.
The idea of camping is to live with just the essentials, but you should make sure to be well prepared. Bring creature comforts like a sleeping bag, extra blankets and even an air mattress. This will keep you warm if it gets really cool at night and/or you can use them for additional padding.
Are you a new camper with a brand new tent? Learn how to pitch your tent before you leave for the campsite. This will give you the confidence to pitch your tent at any time. This will help you set up camp in a hurry if you get to the site just before dark.
Get The Right Sleeping Bag for the Weather
Your sleeping bag should be able to accommodate a variety of camping conditions. Bags that are light are good for warmer places and a sleeping bag that’s heavier works best when things are colder. You will need sleeping bags that hug your body and help you retain body heat if you’re sleeping in a tent.
Watch your kids closely. It is easy for children to get lost, and cars often come and go. It can take just one second for a child to get into danger, so supervise them at all times to be safe.
Keep an eye out on your camping area. Don’t set up camp near wasps or other insect homes. Keep an eye out for animals and insects around your camp, and make sure there aren’t any large populations of them close to you. It may be wise to take along bug spray too.
Always bring both a first-aid kit as well as a survival kit. These items can help save a life or help keep a harmful situation from going from bad to worse. Your kit can also prevent situations from becoming worse and make it easier to get an individual in need to safety.
People will often forget to build their shelter before sunset. It is extremely difficult to pitch a tent whenever it is dark. If you plan on pitching a tent when its dark, you will need a flashlight. It is simply much easier to do this while the sun is still out so that you are all set whenever it gets dark.
Study the map of the area you plan to enter in advance and learn how to use a compass. Even if you’ve already been to your future campsite, getting lost once there is still a possibility since many areas of the site will look the same. To steer clear of calamities, learning the right way to use such lifesaving tools is key.
So many people suffer from food poisoning because food is not stored and prepared correctly. Food poisoning can happen when food is spoiled, which is something you risk when you take food not properly preserved, vacuum sealed or canned. Pack perishables in ice, and don’t forget to pull out the drain plug of the cooler to keep food from getting wet.
Keep your tent free from moisture and well ventilated. With no ventilation, condensation can form in the tent. You might wake up wet if this happens. Tents sometimes have vents that are built in or windows that can be opened to prevent the build up of moisture.
